This document explains how we interact with the public on social media platforms.

Social Media Accounts

The Notice Program uses the following Social Media channels:

Content and Frequency of Posts

We use our social accounts as alternative methods of sharing content posted on our website.

By following our accounts you can expect to see information about the IAP and ADR Notice Program.

You should expect to see new content weekly. While we understand the Internet is a 24/7 medium, and your comments are welcome at any time, our accounts are not monitored 24/7.

We aim to update and monitor our accounts during regular office hours; Monday to Friday 9:00 to 5:00pm Eastern Standard Time. We may occasionally add content on weekends, but our accounts are not monitored on weekends. Therefore, comments submitted after hours or on weekends will be read and responded to accordingly. Our social media accounts are subject to downtime that may be beyond our control. We accept no responsibility for social media networks becoming unresponsive or unavailable.

In the event that any of our social media channels are unavailable or unresponsive, you may access Information about the IAP and ADR Notice Program elsewhere on this website.

Comments and Interaction

We will read comments and participate in discussions when appropriate.

We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers. All replies, comments, direct messages and other interactions on our social media accounts will be read and any emerging themes or helpful suggestions will be acted upon as appropriate.

We may be not able to reply individually to all the messages we receive through our social media accounts. Responses to individual messages will handled on a case-by-case basis.

Respect

We welcome your comments and expect them to be relevant and respectful. We reserve the right to delete comments that are not. Users may be blocked and reported to prevent further inappropriate comments.

We reserve the right to block users whose comments or interactions with us:

  • Are contrary to the principles of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
  • Express racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting, disrespectful, or life-threatening messages;
  • Put forward serious, unproven or inaccurate accusations against individuals or organizations;
  • Are aggressive, coarse, violent, obscene or pornographic;
  • Are offensive, rude or abusive to an individual or an organization;
  • Are not sent by the author or are put forward for advertising purposes;
  • Encourage illegal activity;
  • Contain announcements from labour or political organizations;
  • Are unintelligible or irrelevant;
  • Are repetitive or spam; and
  • Do not, in our opinion, add to the normal flow of the discussion.

In short, please be respectful and make sure that your comments are relevant to where they are posted. The views of users commenting on our social media accounts do not necessarily represent the views of the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat (IRSAS).

No Endorsement

IRSAS’ decision to "follow", "favourite", "friend", "subscribe" to or interact with another social media user or account does not imply an endorsement of that account, channel, page or site, and neither does sharing (retweeting, liking, reposting or linking to) content from another user.

Advertising

IRSAS’ social media accounts may post or display links or ads for websites that are not under our control. We are not responsible for the information found through these links or ads, nor do we endorse these sites or their content.

Accessibility of Social Media Platforms

If you have difficulty accessing content on our social media account, please contact us and we will try to solve the problem or provide you with the information in a different format.

Copyright/Permission to Reproduce

Information that we post is subject to the Copyright Act.

Privacy

Our social media account is not a Government of Canada website and represents only our presence on third-party service providers.

Our social media accounts are open to the public. This means your comments or posts are not private. The Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat is not responsible for personal information posted by others.

To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, we recommend that you avoid posting anything personal about yourself or anyone else. We will not respond to any inquiries or comments about specific IAP or ADR claims (please see the next section, No Discussion of Claims)

No Discussion of Claims

We cannot engage with users who ask specific questions about Independent Assessment Process (IAP) or Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) claims, or mention an IAP or ADR claim or claimant. Please address your questions to your lawyer, your Claimant Support Officer, or the IAP Information Line 1(877) 635-2648.

Official Languages

We respect the Official Languages Act and are committed to ensuring that our information is available in both French and English and that both versions are of equal quality.

We reply to comments in the official language in which they are posted.

We may share links that direct users to sites of organizations or other entities that are not subject to the Official Languages Act and available only in the language(s) in which they are written. When content is available in only one language, we make an effort to provide similar content in the other official language.
